From the ravages of war, an unforgettable story was written. It took place in Nazi Germany during World War II, when Liesel was traumatized by the death of her brother and separation from her only family. She moved to live with her foster parents, they were kind to her and she loved them. Hans, her foster father, introduces her to the world of words; he teaches her to read, first in her bedroom and then in the basement, the place where she used to hide in it. Her parents hide a Jew, named Max, in their basement too. They dive into this world together, with tons of books Liesel was stealing at every opportunity. Stuck between the innocence of childhood that was stolen from her and the maturity demanded by her destructive surrounding, Liesel succeeded in escaping the ordinary and writing a story. We highly recommend this book as it is one of the most touching books anyone can ever read.
